Long Walk and Talk

The other day, the weather was very nice; for the first time hubby and I were able to walk in the morning after dropping our son off to school. I really miss this moment where we can talk almost about everything...from small thing such as baby snake to school anxiety. Though it was raining a little bit, we manage to walked around the lake and back home; that was an hour of walking and talking. One of the thing we talked about was the coming community garage sale this October. On the day of garage sale we plan on selling the stuffs we accumulated for year that we don't need anymore. This garage sale reminds me of the pedestal sinks we bought for our bathrooms in our old house that were never installed, instead we sold it on a yard sale. I really like those pedestal sinks but we just didn't get the chance to used them due to our immediate out of state. How I wished we could have keep it for our new house. Oh well, maybe someday we would be able to replace our bathroom sinks to a pedestal one once they need a replacement.

The Clotheslines

I find this poem about "Clotheslines" interesting. I reminds me of home and the memories of my childhood. I remember me and my mother do the laundry using our hands, hanging them on the clotheslines. I remember my mother telling me to wipe the clotheslines first before hanging them. I remember that there are some laundry bar soap that made my wrists bleed...and my mother would always say that these soaps are very strong, therefore they hurt my hands and wrists. Even though I bought my mother a washer and dryer, she still prefers to dry our clothes using clotheslines. Okay, here it is....read on!

A clothesline was a news forecast
To neighbors passing by,
There were no secrets you could keep
When clothes were hung to dry.

It also was a friendly link
For neighbors always knew
If company had stopped on by
To spend a night or two.

For then you’d see the “fancy sheets
And towels upon the line;
You’d see the “company table cloths”
With intricate designs.

The line announced a baby’s birth
From folks who lived inside -
As brand new infant clothes were hung,
So carefully with pride!

The ages of the children could
So readily be known
By watching how the sizes changed,
You’d know how much they’d grown!

It also told when illness struck,
As extra sheets were hung;
Then nightclothes, and a bathrobe, too,
Haphazardly were strung.

It also said, “Gone on vacation now”
When lines hung limp and bare.
It told, “We’re back!” when full lines sagged
With not an inch to spare!

New folks in town were scorned upon
If wash was dingy and gray,
As neighbors carefully raised their brows,
And looked the other way .. . .

But clotheslines now are of the past,
For dryers make work much less.
Now what goes on inside a home
Is anybody’s guess!

I really miss that way of life.
It was a friendly sign
When neighbors knew each other best
By what hung out on the line.

My Favorite News

Guest post from: Joe Castro

The only news I watch is my local Fox station's, WXMI-17, because it delivers the news, and only the news. When this station first aired news they broke tradition by airing at it 10 pm instead of at 11. I liked this a lot because I got to get informed and go to sleep earlier. They have evolved from their hour start at ten, into having a four-hour morning show along with an hour at 6 pm. I only get to catch a half hour of the morning telecast, but there are days I think about playing hooky just to watch the rest of it. From the beginning, their newscasters and reporters always had good rapport. They all seem to be quick witted, playing off each other's jokes. I like the fact that myTV offers the local channels, so that I can continue to watch this local telecast grow and change. I'm glad I looked for Direct tv deals in New York! They also have a very educated meteorologist that have good senses of humor. Those guys can make me laugh even on a rainy day. I think the thing that I like most about the entire crew is that they all keep their opinions to themselves; I am not getting bombarded by some nitwit's political agenda. This crew delivers the facts, while having a good time; which makes it the only news I can watch.

Basic Rules for Clotheslines

I learn to wash clothes at the very young age of six. And we used clotheslines to dry out our clothes. I remember helping my mother hanging those clothes on the clotheslines. It was like never ending job to me. Anyway, here are the Basic Rules of The Clothesline and a cute poem. Should you attempt to stroll down memory lane and actually hang some laundry outside.

1. You had to wash the clothes line before hanging any clothes – walk the entire lengths of each line with a damp cloth around the lines.
2. You had to hang the clothes in a certain order, and always hang “whites” with “whites,” and hang them first.
3. You never hung a shirt by the shoulders – always by the tail!. What would the neighbors think?
4. Wash day on a Monday! . .. . Never hang clothes on the weekend, for heaven’s sake!
5. Hang the sheets and towels on the outside lines so you could hide your “unmentionables” in the middle
6. It didn’t matter if it was sub zero weather … clothes would “freeze-dry.”
7. Always gather the clothes pins when taking down dry clothes! Pins left on the lines were “tacky!”
8. If you were efficient, you would line the clothes up so that each item did not need two clothes pins, but shared one of the clothes pins with the next washed item.
9. Clothes off of the line before dinner time, neatly folded in the clothes basket, and ready to be ironed.
10. Fresh sheets on the bed guarantee a good nights rest!

Saturday 9: Welcome Back

Attend CCNA Training and Learn Skills

The school starts next week, and my son will be busy at school while hubby is at work. And I will be left alone at home. I am not used to staying home doing nothing; so I will be spending most of my time working in front of the computer. It would be nice if I can work using my computer at home. But then again, I think it would be better for me to work outside home just like I did before our son was borne.

When I talked with my husband about it, his response was positive. He said to think about CCNA or Cisco Certified Network Associate accreditation where I can easily build a better future in the industry of computer networking. As we all know Cisco is known globally as a renowned networking company that can help with career involving networking. In order to be a licensed Cisco networking engineer, you need to be certified first. Which means you need to acquire CCNA training, an extremely big step directly into the field of networking, thus a big possibility to land a great job with excellent income.

CCNA is known globally, and you are not restricted to places to do or find a job. Their program provides you with an understanding into routers as well as the connections necessary to build efficiently and keep track of a system, from a small office or home network to a large company. In today's world, the need for this kind of specialist is actually substantial for this demand is as simple as obtaining a good accreditation that will give the industry acknowledgment relating to your knowledge and abilities in Cisco's products/technologies. If you are interested on this kind of job, visit their website to find out more of the recommended CCNA boot camp in your area.

Living in Malaysia

About ten years ago, I used to live in Malaysia with my Aunt and her family. I moved there to look for a greener pasture. My Aunt helped me find a job and was happy since. I worked there for almost two years, but became unhappy. I knew then that I am missing something in my life. And so I started using the internet to find out what I was missing. Internet kept me sane for the past few months. Then came Christmas time. My Aunt and her family decided to spend the holiday in the Philippines living me to housesit their big and beautiful house by myself. I was afraid knowing that I will be alone and there is no security system installed in their house. I won't be scared if that area they live is not popular with burglars and robbers.

Before they left, I suggested to call someone to install burglar alarms otherwise I will not housesit their house. They really need it for they were almost burglarized once! Oh well, my Aunt thought that installation was so expensive and so they didn't do what I have suggested. I ended getting my friend to stay with me especially at night. Good thing nothing happened to me or the house the whole time they were away.

When she came to my house for a visit, I asked her if they installed burglar alarms in their new house and she said “not yet.” So, I offer her some tips as to how to make their place safe and secure and free from thieves and burglars. I also urged her to visit www.homesecurityteam.com and read about how important it is to have an alarm system in their house especially that they are always away during holiday season.

Electricians Can Save the Day

Back in the country where I was borne and raised the power goes out very often. Sometimes it takes hours and the most would be a day or two, which is very annoying. Good thing my brother is an electrician and he fix whatever the problem at home every time. Nowadays, it is very hard to live without power for everything runs by it. I remember two weeks ago, when a friend phoned me telling me that she was at our other friend's house because the power went out and she couldn't stand the heat without the air con running. I would do the same if I was her. Anyway, if the power at your house went out every so often, chances are that there must be something wrong; it's time to call the Chicago Electricians to help you fix the problems. Don't ignore the problem otherwise worst thing might happens; for instance......a fire! You wouldn't want that to happen, do you? So give them a call now or click the link here if you happen to live in Chicago area. Act now before it is too late!

It's "Meet the Teacher Night" today, yay!

Today is the "meet the teacher night" at Jacob's new school and he is very excited to go. He thought it would his first day of school where he could stay and learn. I told him that the school doesn't start till next week (Monday). He was disappointed; my poor little man had already so much for the summer and is bored being home. Can't blame him. With the soaring heat everyday, and we could go out and play...that is too much to bear even for me. Three more days and he will off to school; will going to miss him, but what can I do? My little boy needs to go to school and learn. Hubby and I are excited though to walk him off to school on Monday.

Dream Vacation Home at Outer Banks

Before we moved back to Texas last year due to Hubby's job, we decided to have a week vacation to Virginia Beach and in the islands of Hatteras and Ockracke in North Carolina. We had a blast! We sure glad we went or we might regret not going. We love to go back there again someday soon and to once again enjoy the beaches, historical places and touring the light houses. The highlight of that vacation was the ferry ride :-).and also celebrating my birthday with a lunch at a seafood restaurant by the lake. I also enjoyed our stay at outer banks as well as the view of the outer banks vacation rental homes. How I wished we could have stayed there longer than we want to. Hubby and I also noticed that there are many rental homes for sale and some Outer banks short sales, too. It would be nice if we can afford to buy one someday since it is one of our dream to live in an island where life is simple, peaceful and happy.

Flight Survival Tips

We were supposed to go to the Philippines this Christmas, but buying a house ate into our budget. And so we set this plan aside and do it next year. Anyway, my last trip to the Philippines with my son was hard, so I told my husband that I will never travel by plane again without him. Talking about flying.....flying today with its delays, multiple stops and packed flights requires an act of discipline and a sense of humor. Even the pilots know, to mentally survive they have to on occasion bite their lip and smile.

Here’s some suggestions on how to keep sane when you’re tempted to curl up in the fetal position and suck your thumb while flying.

Two Drinks: Most flight attendants say it’s OK to ask for two drinks at a time so you don’t need to call them back in 5 minutes. Remember to drink plenty of water and juice to keep hydrated, and avoid caffeinated drinks, along with tea and coffee. These just make you thirstier.

Wear Shoes: Now that you’re slouching around with your belly bloated with H2O. You’ll need to go to the bathroom more often. Never, and I repeat NEVER, use plane toilets without wearing shoes. The flight attendants work hard to keep these areas clean but can’t keep cleaning the bathroom throughout the flight, so you never know what you may take back to your seat? Along with your belly your feet can swell during the flight so wear something easy to slip on and off your feet.

Seat Belts: Always wear your seat belt, even when the seat belt light is off. There can always be unexpected jolts from take off to landing. I was on a flight where the pilot bounced the plane extremely hard twice while landing. His voice on the intercom quickly eased our white knuckles as he said “Take that you bad, bad runway!

Do Exercises : Getting some exercise is important to staying healthy and feeling good during and after the flight. Get up and stretch regularly if possible, or at least circle your ankles once an hour. If you’re really into exercising go down the aisle trying to kick the pennies out of your penny loafers.

Dry Air: Keep the air vent above you open. Dampen a facecloth, place it over your face, and aim the air vent at the cloth. This will help with the dryness. If you want your teen-ager to roll their eyes in disgust draw a smiley face on the facecloth.

Wear Layers: You’ve got to contend with busy airports at each end, and different levels of air-conditioning on the plane. Most often the cabin is so cold you can hang beef in it, so layer your clothing. Take out of your suit case excess clothing, don’t worry that the clothes are multi-colored and mismatched, and put it on. It will give you more space in your hand luggage. The down side is that you will look like a fashion consultant for D.I.

Sleep: Sleep as much as you can. Avoid alcohol and caffeine; Try eating your dinner at the airport before your flight, then once on the plane turn in for the night. Use an eye mask, ear plugs, and a neck pillow to make yourself as comfortable as possible. Think about what you’re looking forward to doing at your destination, and let yourself drift off. If you’re lucky, you’ll wake up to the flight attendant saying: “As you exit the plane, please make sure to gather all of your belongings. Anything left behind will be distributed evenly among the flight attendants. Please do not leave children or spouses.

The next time you get the urge to go blasting through the sky in a pressurized metal tube for much of the day and night hope these hints will help you pass the time with a smile on your face.
